Virtue-signalling hypocrite

June 2022 Although I’m in favour of eliminating all mask mandates (wear one if you want to), including in the House of Commons, there is a delicious irony that our virtue-signaler-in-chief has turned wearing a mask in the House of Commons into a virtue-signaling exercise (Liberal wear them, at least on camera, because they love …

Chief throws Toronto Police officers under the bus

June 2022 Congratulations Chief Ramer. You just pained the entire Toronto Police Service as racists, including black officers, whom you are effectively calling as Uncle Toms. As Jamil Javani points out in his column “I do not accept Toronto Police Chief James Ramer’s apology, 16 June,” by labeling Toronto Police as systemically racist and insisting …

We’ve got Trump this time!! Honest!

June 2022 As reported by the Associated Press: “Members of the House committee investigating the U.S. Capitol riot say they’ve uncovered enough evidence for the Justice Department to consider an unprecedented criminal indictment against former President Donald Trump for seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.” I hesitate to call them liars, as …

June 2022 In response to a letter submitted by Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard (MP says new luxury tax will ‘devastate’ manufacturing, Letter to the Editor, 9 June), columnist Peter Bursztyn wrote his own letter in response (Reader says luxury vehicle owners should pay more tax, Letter to the Editor, 11 June). Bonnie View Inn – The sole survivor on Lake Kashagawigamog still providing great summer memories

June 2022 Looking out on Lake Kashagawigamog, there were once 17 lodges/resorts along this lake in the Haliburton Highlands area of central Ontario. Today, only the Bonnie View Inn remains, just as it has since opening in 1924. Situated on the southern side of Lake Kashagawigamog, this 28-room, four-season country inn resort has been family …

No medal for you! – Canada won’t issue a medal for the historic platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II

June 2022 Long may she reign. Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating a record-breaking 70 years on the throne in 2022, but in Canada, you might not know it. In a break with the usual protocol, Canada will not be issuing a medal to commemorate this historic milestone, something that may never be repeated. Her Majesty …

Left-wing talking points are getting tiresome

June 2022 Although it’s highly unlikely that Andrea Horwath, or even Steven Del Duca, will defeat Premier Doug Ford on Thursday, I still would like to make some points for future reference.  When Horwath talks about Ford’s policies only benefitting “his buddies,” does she realize that “Ford’s buddies” would be her buddies too if she …

Hamilton’s Auchmar Manor is an underappreciated jewel

May 2022 The southern Ontario city of Hamilton, at the far west end of Lake Ontario, has many historic buildings, a small number of which date back to when Ontario was known as Upper Canada.
