For the first time, I agree with something the President Joe Biden has said, that being that the COVID-19 pandemic is over. This is some long overdue common sense, something that our own Prime Minister Blackface could emulate.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that the COVID-19 virus is gone. There are many viruses and germs that can and do infect us all the time, and COVID-19 will continue being just one of them. Every winter, the annual cold and flu season begins in earnest, infecting old and young alike. Most of us know that every winter, there is a good chance we will get at least one cold, unless you live in a hermetically sealed bubble. It’s just reality.
When you think about it, the world is a really filthy place. Just think of all the common-use things we all touch on a daily basis, from elevator buttons, to door handles, to railings, to the buttons on an ATM. How often are things like that cleaned, if ever? I’d certainly hate to be a Germologist, a Virologist, or similar disciplines.
The cold, hard truth is that we can’t stop all viruses and the resulting infections, as evidenced by the fact that despite all our medical scientific knowledge, we haven’t found cures for things like the common cold and influenza. The best we have been able to accomplish is the ability to manage them.
What has enabled humans to survive for thousands of years is our body’s natural immunity to infections, built up over time by previous infections, aided, of course, by medicines and proper hygiene.
As my Mom always says, kids don’t eat enough dirt these days.
