Moral hypocrisy in condemning cougar hunter

January 2018

There has been much outrage about Steve Ecklund, host of the outdoor show The Edge, shooting of a cougar back in December.

As far as it’s been reported, it was a legal annual hunt done during a legal hunting season, sanctioned by the Alberta Environment Ministry as a part of their wildlife management.

Ecklund reported that he butchered the cougar and will responsibly use all of the animal, much as our Indigenous brothers and sisters have traditionally done for centuries.

That brings me to a very inconvenient point the haters are failing to acknowledge:  we wouldn’t be having this conversation if the hunter was an Indigenous person.
