Re: “Polievere states reality, stated there are just 2 genders” (Brian Lilley, Toronto Sun, 23 January): I absolutely agree with both Polievere and President Trump’s declaration that there are only two genders. Biology doesn’t lie. Apparently, there are now officially 73 genders, which makes me wonder at what point will this nonsense end?
I’ve tried to read about some of these “genders” to educate myself, but in reading the definitions of “genders” such as non-binary, gender-queer, gender-fluid, post-gender, gender non-conforming, etc, I can only manage to read the first sentence or two before my brain starts hurting. The definitions, which occasionally have cross-over, are such gobbly-goop, woke nonsense, that I wonder if the people who proclaim to be these “genders” even understand what they mean?
Look, when it comes right down to it, if anyone wants to identify as non-binary, or gender-queer, or gender-fluid, I say, “You do you.” Same thing with Trans. If that’s what makes you happy, then I say mazel tov; I say go for it! That said, I hope it does actually make you happy, unlike the increasing number of de-transitioners who have found out the hard way that some people lied to them when they suggested to the person that they should take cross-sex hormones and have their body irreversibly altered through surgery.
I also don’t buy the argument that parents must allow their children to transition, lest they kill themselves, which is another issue. If anyone, of any age for that matter, believes they will kill themselves unless the are allowed to transition, then I suggest they get psychological help to deal with the issues tormenting them, rather than doing something that will not bring them any happiness. Same with anyone identifying as one of the ever increasing number of genders, which I believe is adding to the mental health issues.
I will strongly stress that this opinion, in no way, means that I’m advocating for violence, discrimination or disrespect for anyone identifying as anything other than “male” or “female.” Like I said, you do you, but I don’t believe that someone who is born a man and transitions to a woman is actually a woman. A person can change their outwards presentation, with or without surgery, but it’s a biological fact that someone born with XY chromosomes is a male. Science doesn’t have an opinion. There is occasionally disagreement on the interpretation, but the scientific facts are what they are and nothing more. Surgery, hormone treatments, or just your personal feelings, can’t change that fact.
