The roar of the engines at Shanty Bay Go-Karts are just a memory now

October 2021

Shanty Bay Go-Karts has been a popular summer tourist attraction for decades. Located on southbound side of Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township, just north of Barrie, Ontario, the one kilometre-long track provided hours of entertainment for thousands of go-kart racers, in both single and double rider karts.

When done racing, visitors could take in a round of mini-golf. There was also a party room for birthday parties and other special events.

Both the kart track and the mini-golf stayed empty for the 2020 operating season, due to restrictions imposed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus.

Owner Nabil Samuel never opened for the 2021 season either, despite a relaxing of restrictions.

The mini-golf course is being overwhelmed by weeds, and while the race track is still in good condition, the weeds along the sides of the track are getting bigger and denser; obscuring the view of the track from a distance.

The entire 10.5 acre property, with also includes a disused gas station and commercial space, formerly occupied by a Coffee Time outlet and a McDonalds restaurant, is up for sale. It’s unknown what will become of this once popular food and entertainment spot.
