No Name – Loblaw goes back to the past for “new” store concept

August 2024

Loblaw recently announced the creation of their ultra-discount No Name store concept, with first three stores scheduled to open in September in Windsor, St. Catharines and Brockville.

What a great new idea for a store! Oh wait, am I the only one who remembers when No Frills stores were literally like walking into a warehouse? Products weren’t on carefully stocked shelves. Shipping boxes were literally just placed on the shelf and slit open so that customers could grab the products. All that changed when the No Frills stores were transformed into the glossy entities they are now.

While I certainly do appreciate the effort to reduce prices for consumers, my question would be why didn’t they just keep the No Frills stores as they were? I thought that was the whole point of the No Frills concept in the first place, as opposed to other stores in the Loblaw chain.
