Country singer Lindsay Ell makes for a great musical summer night in Peterborough

August 2024

The Peterborough Musicfest just finished it’s 37th year as an outdoor summer concert series, held on Wednesday and Saturday nights in Del Crary Park, along the shore of Little Lake. Ell headlined the 10 August show, the third last show of the summer series that included a wide variety of original artists and cover bands. For music fans, Peterborough Musicfest remains a highlight of the summer, with approximately 125,000 people packing the cozy waterfront park each year.

Calgary, Alberta-born country singer-guitarist Lindsay Ell has had an amazing ride the past twenty years. In addition to a rising solo career, with five albums under her belt, she is currently a part of Shania Twain’s live band, both as a part of her residency Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and Twain’s summer tour of the UK and Ireland.

As Shania’s lead guitarist, gets to play the song, No One Needs to Know, the song from Twain’s 1995 second album that inspired Lindsay to start singing as a little girl, while standing just feet away from her idol and inspiration. Ell had opened for Twain on her 2023 Canadian tour, making quite a positive impression on the Country Music superstar with her county, rock and blues influenced music. She had previously toured with another music icon and one of Ell’s guitar influences, famed blues guitarist Buddy Guy in 2008.

It was being discovered by legendary Canadian musician Randy Bachman, of The Guess Who and BTO fame, at the 15-years-old that set her off on her music career. Ell started off playing piano at 6-years-old, switching to guitar two years later. A decade later, Ell released her first album, produced by Bachman. Her most recent album is Heart Theory, released in 2020.

Since 2022, Ell has been the host of the reality competition show, Canada’s Got Talent. She has lived in Nashville since 2010.
