I was wondering if I could enlist the assistance of the Toronto Sun for a new fundraising opportunity to benefit local charities? My idea is a lottery, where listeners will place bets on the exact time in the next interview or press conference in which Marit Stiles participates, that she brings up “Ford’s luxury private jet.”
Okay, in all seriousness, Stiles has every right to criticize the government at any time, on any subject she wishes to bring up, regardless of how many times she brings up the exact same subject. That’s what opposition parties do; keep picking at the scab; I get that. That said, Marit’s constant reference to it has almost a drinking-game quality to it, in that you know somewhere in the conversation, she will bring up the “luxury private jet,” regardless of the topic at hand.
The Simpsons beautifully mocked the overuse of a catchphrase in the episode, “Bart Gets Famous.” Every time I hear Marit speaking, I also want to yell out, “Just say the line.” Maybe you should consider getting some new material, Marit. Ford certainly does give his critics plenty of material.
