August 2026
Well, that didn’t take long! No, I’m not talking about the plethora of Taco Tuesday posts regarding President Donald Trump declaring last minute that he will extend the tariff deadline for three days, until 22 August. I’m actually referring to the people who actually believe that when “Trump Always Chickens Out,” it’s a sign of weakness. Not necessarily.
Is Trump chickening out, or is he making us bring our “A” game to the negotiations. No one has been better at uniting Canadians and convincing us that we need to do much, MUCH better on a variety of issues, such as control of our borders, clamping down on illegal immigration and increasing our defence spending, all things that we should have done on our own YEARS ago. By putting intense and sometimes rather unhinged pressure on us, I believe he’s letting us know that if we want to sit at the adult’s table, we need to act like adults. Negotiations of any kind don’t have to look pretty; they just have to get the job done.
Trump may be a complete nut-bar, but there may actually be a method to his madness.
Over to you, Prime Minister Carney. You have three more days to get done a job you promised would be done a year ago. Let’s hope you have more in your arsenal than the hope that you can wait-out the mid-term elections. Canada can’t wait that long.
