Canada’s combined federal and provincial government net debt now exceeds $2.4 trillion. Interest on federal debt is around $59 billion per year, while the interest on provincial debt $16.2 billion per year. So, can someone tell me why PM Mark Carney has pledged more than $600 million in aid for Palestine since the Israel-Hamas war started in October 2023? I only ask because we have a lot of people in Canada who could use that kind of money, including the numerous First Nations communities that lack adequate housing and clean water.
