Regarding the backlash over Doug Ford’s comment that patients can get MRIs at animal hospital, it’s a shame that some people have lost their sense of humour. Of course it was a joke. Get over yourselves, you humourless pratts.
However, on a serious note, Ford’s comment does draw attention to the fact that, because you are paying for your pooch or kitty to get that MRI at the vet clinic, which is a private clinic, you can indeed get Rover and Fluffy procedures much faster than people can in our publicly-funded wait-list system that functions as a healthcare system.
A private healthcare system can indeed function, and should be allowed, alongside our public system, without the sky falling. Other countries have proven this to be true. We just need the political will to get it done.
I fail to see how anything that will make it easier for people to access healthcare is not a good thing, especially for those willing to pay for privately provided services. Easier access would also include expanding services provided by private entities, like pharmacists.
