Backlash for Selena Gomez’s cringeworthy video shows the public isn’t buying the emotional manipulation anymore

February 2025

Singer and actress Selena Gomez recently posted a cringeworthy video of herself crying over the fact that the Trump administration is now deporting illegal migrants back to their home countries. In the video, that she quickly deleted after receiving massive backlash, features a medium shot of her sobbing and blubbering that Trump is deporting “her people.” It appears that the public isn’t buying the emotional manipulation anymore of celebrities like Gomez, showing just how tired people are of Hollywood’s empty theatrics.

While elites weep on social media, the Trump administration is focused on restoring order and common sense to a nation that’s had enough of the guilt trips and the scolding accusations of racism and xenophobia. We’re not talking about refugees, who are seeking sanctuary from persecution or death. We’re talking about those who are attempting to undermine the laws of a sovereign nation. Even those attempting to enter a foreign country for lawful purposes (business, vacation, etc.) don’t have the right to demand entry if that country doesn’t wish to grant entry, and no one who is not a citizen has the right to refuse to leave once admitted, if told they must leave.

To be very clear, I’ll stress it again: It’s illegal migrants who are being deported, not those lawfully in America.

Imagine a homeless person, or even someone who just wants a better house, walks up to your front door, comes on in to your house, grabs some food and beverages out your refrigerator, plops themselves down on the couch and snaps on the TV. When you ask them to leave, they tell you that they have a right to stay in your home, whether you like it or not. Are you going to just going to admit defeat and let them live in your house now, permanently, or are you going to use the law to have them removed from your house?

I understand that Selena’s grandparents came to America illegally, eventually getting citizenship in an amnesty program. A lot of critics found it troubling that she doesn’t seem to see herself as part of the country that gave her so much, preferring to side with “her people.” There is no reason why a non-citizen who breaks the law should be allowed to stay in the country. Apologists often times twist themselves into very elaborate pretzels trying to justify why illegal migrants shouldn’t be treated as criminals. For those who need a refresher, breaking immigration law is illegal, thus making those engaging in such acts criminals, regardless of any other acts they may have committed.

The real problem with open borders is that for a country to maintain their sovereignty and control access to things like public services and housing, they must be able to control how many immigrants settle in their country each year. Canada’s current housing crisis has been exacerbated by the Trudeau government’s open border policies of the past decade. This is why countries have immigration laws and the ability to enforce those laws. I’ve heard on many talk radio stations, and read in magazines and newspapers, stories of those who immigrated legally, expressing their disgust at illegal immigrants.

Why should anyone follow the law, any law, that a country refuses to enforce? We saw that all too well at places like the infamous Roxham Road border point.
