TTC should have its own armed police agency

December 2025 Toronto Police recently announced that they will be adding eight additional dedicated officers to a portion of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Yonge-University line. Four officers will be positioned between Union and Wellesley stations and another four between Bloor and Eglinton stations. While it certainly seems like a no-brainer to add more police …

The last remnant of the Ontario Hospital for the Insane demolished

November 2025 Known as the “Doctor’s House,” it was the last building built for what was once called the Ontario Hospital for the Insane. It’s now just a memory. The hospital, now known as Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, opened in 1913 in the Town of Whitby as a new, progressive facility for …

Bev Oda – So Ahead Of Her Time

November 2025 I was looking for possible ways to honour the great, under-appreciated, former cabinet Minister, the Honourable Bev Oda. I’m not sure if it should be in the form of a public apology, a monument, the Order of Canada, or a formal portrait hanging in the office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer, but we …

Brampton pays tribute to Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope

November 2025 On 24 July 1980, Terry Fox came to Brampton, Ontario, during his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. Now, 45-years later, Mayor Patrick Brown, members of council, Fox family representative Jessie Alder and artist Christiano De Araujo gathered in Chinguacousy Park to unveil a monument Terry Fox, not far from Terry Fox Stadium. The monument …

Pro-Hamas Palestinians conquer Toronto

November 2025 I was sickened and disgusted by the Palestinian flag raising ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square on Monday.  Besides the sick irony in that the square is named after Toronto’s first Jewish mayor, it was alarming to see supporters standing on the elevated platform where the flagpole sits, shouting “Free, free Palestine” and “From …

Pro-Hamas agitators continue their antisemitic harassment of Jews in Toronto

November 2025 Re: “Unvarnished Hatred” (Brian Passifiume, Toronto Sun, 11 Nov): A rather disturbing video was posted by independent journalist and lawyer Caryma Sa’d, showing a group of pro-Hamas agitators marching through a Jewish neighbourhood, is receiving a dismissive reaction from Toronto Police. Their official stance is that this march is to dismiss it as …

Olivia Chow says the quiet part out loud

November 2025 John Torry famously said in 2020 “…I would be very happy if this entire program didn’t result in any tickets being issued because people got the message that there was going to be a consequence to their irresponsible behaviour.” Now that Premier Doug Ford’s government has banned municipal photo radar, we have Mayor …

Carney wants civil servants in uniform? Seriously?

November 2025 According to a report in the Ottawa Citizen by David Pugliese on 10 November, Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to draft federal civil servants into the Canadian Armed Forces reserves? Would those be the same civil servants who have a problem coming back to the office 5-days-a-week? Those civil servants?! Seriously?! Did he …

Be careful what you wish for

November 2025 I’m continually amazed at the logic of some of the readers of The Hamilton Spectator. In his Letter to the Editor (“This is why we need electoral reform,” 11 November), Chris Cardey disparages our first-past-the-post system of government, claiming that Doug Ford’s government has a “false majority,” and this is why we need …

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

November 2025 Well, it’s official. The new mayor of New York City is Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old New York State Assemblyman from New York’s 36th State Assembly district. It never ceases to amaze me how the useful idiots on the political left keep tightening the noose around their own necks and other liberal democracies by …
