Next on the banned list…..

March 2021 Now that six Dr. Seuss books, including If I Ran the Zoo and Scrambled Eggs Super!, have been banned for having racist and insensitive imagery, I guess this book from my own childhood will be banned too, if it hasn’t already. The Five Chinese Brothers is the heartwarming story of a little boy who …

Anger at former CPP Investment Board CEO misdirected

March 2021 Some people are all too happy to heap scorn and condemnation on Mark Machin, former Chef Executive Officer of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), for traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during this pandemic. I have no idea whether his reasoning of “deeply personal” reasons is a valid one or …

Be careful what you wish for

February 2021 For those who still think it’s a great idea to de-fund the police, or even disband their police forces, Minneapolis City Council recently decided that disbanding their police force would be a bad idea, less than a year after the June 2020 vote. The inconvenient truth is that since that vote, crime in …

A boondoggle in the making? – Hamilton’s cancelled LRT project may be coming back to life

Published in the Toronto Sun, 16 February 2021 Re: “Ford promises $1 billion of your money for Hamilton’s LRT disaster,” (Brian Lilley, Toronto Sun, 13 February): Brian is right that the Hamilton LRT is a project that’s not wanted.
