Why is it racist to have immigration and refugee standards?

October 2016

I think it’s disgraceful how intolerant most progressives can be regarding anyone who doesn’t share their opinions.  Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch has been taking a lot of heat for stance on immigration and refugee applicants be screened for what she referred to as anti-Canadian values.

For example, anyone who doesn’t support Trudeau’s Syrian migrant, virtue-signalling vanity project, is a racist.  You must be a racist if you support properly screening anyone who wishes to settle in Canada, refugee or not, to ensure they subscribe to Canadian values and the freedoms that liberal-democracies like Canada enjoy.  Progressives claim you simply don’t want “brown people”, or for that matter any non-white, non-Anglo-Saxons, coming to Canada and settling in our communities.

This is the nadir of intolerance, yet these virtue-signaling do-gooders fail to realize this point.  There are many reasons to want our immigration officers to properly screen anyone who wishes to settle in Canada and build a new life.

Now refugees are a different story as doing proper background checks can be hard, especially those who flee from war-torn regions or third-world countries where documentation sometimes gets lost, if it even existed in the first place.  Some developing countries don’t even issue birth certificates.

However, this is no reason for immigration officers not to do their best to keep out of Canada those who are dangerous or don’t subscribe to Canadian values.  This is not about keeping “those people” out of Canada; this is about keeping those who may do or wish to do harm to Canada and Canadian values.

In reality, some of the non-white, non-Anglo-Saxon refugees that come to Canada do so because they are escaping violence, discrimination and persecution, either religious or cultural, in their birth countries.  By not properly screening those who wish to settle in Canada, we are risking the safety of those same refugees by admitting to Canada the same dangerous people and/or ideologies those refugees were trying to escape from in the first place.

Yet the virtue-signalling, selfie-loving Trudeau worshippers would rather call those who want a proper immigration system in Canada racists.  Who is the real bigot here?
