Mr. Del Duca and Liberal supporters,
On what planet do you honestly believe that banning handguns will have any effect on gun crimes and violence? There are already numerous laws on the books to deal with gun crimes, but criminals don’t care about any of them, so what makes any of you think that by making handguns illegal in Ontario will have any effect?
It’s already illegal for all but law enforcement officers, armoured car guards and a very small number of specially licenced people to walk around with a handgun. It’s also illegal to shoot near or at another person, unless to defend your life or the life of someone else, even for law enforcement officers. This is why the vast majority of us don’t engage in such activities.
Sure, by banning guns, there will be fewer legally-owned guns for criminals to steal, but this represents a very small percentage of the number of guns illegally possessed by criminals. What would have a greater effect on gun crimes and violence would be more interdiction of guns being illegally smuggled across the border and to actually had out harsh sentences for offenders.
