“Ungovernables” rampage against capitalism on Hamilton’s trendy Locke Street South

March 2018

A group of anarchists calling themselves “The Ungovernables” went on a rampage on the trendy Locke Street in Hamilton, an area that has been undergoing gentrification, back on 3 March, causing around $100, 000 damage.

In an ironic twist, the headquarters for the Hamilton anarchists on Cannon Street East near Victoria Avenue North, known as The Tower, had its front door smashed in on 7 March around 3:30 am. Nothing was reported missing from inside the building.  Although the anarchists insisted they would not report the matter to police, a “concerned citizen” did contact the police.

The groups’s Facebook page included a post on Wednesday morning, stating that “far-right goons broke in and trashed The Tower’s free community library.”

The Facbook posting continues with a denial of their involvement in the Locke Street rampage but expresses support for what happened:  “No, the actions on Locke and Aberdeen on Saturday night were not organized by the Tower, but yes, we support what happened and are in solidarity with those who carried them out,” a post on The Tower’s Facebook page reads. “Class war is happening every day in this city, with constant attacks on poor and working people. It’s disappointing that so many only care about the occasional moment when a bit of anger flows back the other way.

“The ongoing effects of gentrification in this city are heartbreaking — waves of displacement, growing violence, and intensifying poverty. You cannot expect for all of this to just be swept under the proverbial rug. We have zero tears to shed for Locke st.”

By the way, it would be interesting to see how many of these terrorists, who profess to be anti-capitalists, own articles that come from major corporations.  It’s possible that they buy their clothes at the Salvation Army or make their own clothes, but most of them probably bought them at a major retailer, perhaps at the same super-store where they bought their cell phones, the big screen TV they watch Netfilx on, the laptop computers they used in school and the X-Box game systems they use to play World of Warcraft in their parent’s basement.

So you call yourselves “Ungovernable?”  I bet you’re really just a bunch of hypocrites in the end.  When society agreed to be governed, we as a group agreed to have rules that govern and guide our behaviour.

These rules don’t just exist to punish offenders, but also to protect both the innocent and those accused of offences.  You clowns would be the first to cry foul if the police marched right into the middle of your protest/riot and started breaking bones and hauling you off to jail indefinitely without charges or access to legal representation.

This is of course, if the police were able to arrest you instead of just shooting you to death.  How about if an armed citizen shot you, because in a lawless society, there would be no prohibition against a citizen owning any gun they wished to own or using it against anyone they wished.  This is called anarchy.

If you are true anarchists, you would accept whatever fate befell you but I have a feeling that all of you would be crying for your mommies.

If you’re truly “ungovernable,” then you obviously don’t accept any government services including health care.  Oh silly me, of course you whip out your OHIP card if you have to go to the doctor or a hospital, wouldn’t you?

Do any of them work or are mommy and daddy still paying for everything?

Hey “Ungovernables”, why don’t you just go out and get a job and stop destroying the property of those who worked hard to get it!  If your point was to stick it to the “evil capitalist corporations, you really missed the mark choosing Locke Street.  Those who own the shops you damaged are sole-owner shops, some probably just scraping-by earning a living.  These aren’t rich corporate owners.

I hope all of you will one day regret what you did on that fateful night.  You accomplished nothing and showed everyone how cowardly and immature you really are.
