October 2015
The federal election of 2015 is over and Stephen Harper and his Conservative government were defeated by Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, who won a solid majority in Canada’s Parliament.
I’m trying very hard not to be too smug as I enjoy the silence, or should I say hypocritical silence, from the left-wing “Anti-Harper” voters who used to complain that Stephen Harper had no right to govern when he won a majority in 2011 because he got only 39.6% of the popular vote. Why are those same people not complaining that Justin Trudeau has no right to govern since he got only 39.5% of the popular vote? Oh right, because they “Stopped Harper.” This is not a partisan swipe at these people because they are entitled to their opinion, even if I disagree with it. I just wish they would hold everyone to the same standard if they are going to claim that you need more that 50% of the popular vote to govern.
Oh yes, and those same lefties should also remember that 60.5% of those who voted in the election DID NOT vote for Justin Trudeau and his platform, a platform which includes running deficits, something that even the Tom Mulcair promised not to do. Not partisan; just holding everyone to the same standard.
