The real and devastating consequences of the green obsession

October 2021

The International Energy Agency (IEA) says that we must stop the exploration and development of new oil and gas fields this year. Further, there can be no new coal-fired power stations constructed anywhere in the world, even using clean-coal technology. Otherwise, we aren’t going to meet the net zero emissions target by 2050.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization tells us that “…extreme heat is ravaging North America, leaving hundreds of people dead.” He further states that our “…addiction to fossil fuels…” is having “…real and devastating consequences for our health.”

Meanwhile, in many places in the world, impoverished people are burning whatever they can, including animal dung, to keep warm and cook their food. How many people die each year from burning hazardous substances, like animal dung, or from the cold, because they have no economical way to stay warm? They have no money for the few fossil fuel options that are available to them, even if the supply was adequate for the population, nor can they ever imagine being able to afford to have solar panels on the roof of the tin-sided shack that serves as their home. Hydro transmission lines are non-existent, so they can’t acquire hydro by any other means to power heaters and appliances that they couldn’t afford to have anyway.

They also have no clean water to drink, because that requires hydro and/or fossil fuels to power, too.

Maybe the IEA and Ghebreyesus should concentrate on the “…real and devastating consequences for our health,” both physical and mental health, leading to “…hundreds of people dead, ” will be in a world where we severely restrict, or eliminate, fossil fuel usage, without a viable and affordable alternative.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t search for cleaner fuels to power our society, including refining the technology we have to make existing fuels cleaner, but we’re not there yet.

So, as the progressive elites, the same ones that are pushing the net zero agenda, descend upon Glasgow at the of the month to attend COP 26 so they can lecture us on the evils of fossil fuels, flying there in fossil fuel-powered airplanes, remember how bad you are for wanting affordable and reliable energy sources, like oil and natural gas.
