The Alberta Sovereignty Act passed by the Alberta Legislature

December 2022

With the passage of the Alberta Sovereignty Act by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, critics are pronouncing that it will open the door to a wave of court challenges and is probably unconstitutional.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau likes to prattle-on about how we need to find the “root causes” when it comes to people who are disenchanted. Of course, when I say disenchanted, I mean accused and/or convicted terrorists, not those peacefully protesting COVID mandates, but that’s another issue.

While the constitutionality of the act is certainly a valid question that will eventually have to be answered, the question critics, including Trudeau, should actually be asking at this time is why does Alberta feel they need such an act? “Screw the west, we’ll take the rest,” might be a good place to start looking.
