To all those who think Premier Doug Ford is a dictator and a hypocrite for “forcing his personal will” in cutting Toronto council “simply because he was elected”: did you object to Premier Dalton McGuinty forcing wind turbines and solar farms on unwilling rural municipalities? How about when he forced the health tax on Ontarians after stating in the 2003 election that he wouldn’t raise taxes? A little consistency in your own arguments would be good. Premier Ford is acting within the law and if Ontarians object to his actions, he will face those repercussions in 2022. Then again, I did think that McGuinty/Wynne would face repercussions for their actions in 2007 and 2011 and 2014.

One of the letters that prompted my reply:
FORD IS A HYPOCRITE
So Doug Ford will, for the first time in Ontario’s history, invoke the notwithstanding clause in order to force his personal will on Toronto. Everything in Ford’s world needs oodles of “consultation,” except how Canada’s largest metropolis and eighth-largest government actually governs itself. We’re not big enough to be asked how we feel about our own government. This is both hypocrisy in the extreme, and little more than Ford’s personal vendetta against a government that he supposes did him and his brother wrong. And I think that most honest people will see it for exactly what it is, settling personal grudges at the expense of any sort of integrity. Great way to start, Mr. Ford. Allen Earle Toronto.

(It might surprise you just how much support Ford has to reduce council, but go ahead and listen to the constant whinging from downtown councillors who are just trying to cling on to their wards)
