December 2021
As we rapidly approach year three of two weeks to flatten the curve, I’m seriously thinking of changing my name to Charlie Brown. Maybe all of us should change our names to Charlie Brown, because of the pronouncements of the impending doom we are facing as we head into the Christmas holiday, I’m feeling more and more that “Lucy” (aka the government) has just pulled the football out from under our feet again.
How many times have we been told that if we “follow the rules” for just a little longer, we can get back to normal, with no restrictions, lockdowns, mask mandates, etc.? How many times have we been told that vaccinations are our ticket out of the pandemic?
Now my daughter tells me that her teacher has told the class to take their belongings home with them over the Christmas break “just in case” the schools are ordered closed yet again in January. How many more times are we all going to let “Lucy” pull the football away from us?
The reports in the media so far indicate that the Omicron variant is more contagious but less virulent. So basically, what we have is the flu. We don’t shut down our society during the annual cold & flu season, regardless of the fact that influenza can be fatal. We simply follow basic health protocols of staying home, drinking plenty of liquids (and maybe some chicken soup), taking over-the-counter cold & flu medication, and getting lots of rest.
Of course, let’s not forget coughing and sneezing into our arms, or a tissue (not in people’s faces) and washing our hands frequently.
Children have always been less susceptible to catching the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus (COVID-19), and more importantly, being hospitalized or worse. So far, the Omicron variant is no different, so why are school boards even considering shutting down schools? My daughter, who is attending school in-person, told me that her mental health is suffering because of the lockdowns, and she doesn’t want to do the on-line schooling again.
I’m fully aware of how dangerous the CCP Virus has been, especially for the unvaccinated. Although I don’t know anyone personally who has died from the virus, two of my cousins were good friends with Nick Cordero, the Tony-winning Canadian Broadway actor and singer, originally from Hamilton, Ontario, who died in July 2020 from CCP Virus complications. I’m fully vaccinated and will be booking my booster shot soon. I have been following the rules as much as possible, including staying home more than I normally would. One of the few benefits of having PTSD is that I often don’t feel like associating with my fellow humanoids, so I’m OK with missing a lot of the social gatherings that I would normally attend.
The longer this pandemic goes on, and with more and more variants popping-up, it’s quite apparent that this virus isn’t going away any time soon, if ever. At some point, our governments and health officials are going to have to accept that we are going to have to learn to live with it, just as we live with the common cold and influenza. If we have to get an annual booster shot, I’m fine with that.
However, I’m not fine with spending the rest of my life wearing a mask, having to show a vaccine passport everywhere I go, and quarantining after travelling, even though I’m fully vaccinated! I’m also not good with schools remaining closed. Just throwing that out there.
We don’t shut down our society during the annual cold & flu season, and we shouldn’t continue to shut down because of the CCP Virus either. No more shuttering businesses, community centres, places of worship; no more travel and border restrictions; no more CCP Virus jails, otherwise known as quarantine hotels; no more capacity limits; no more job terminations for not being vaccinated; no more fines for “breaking the rules.”
Hey, if it’s OK for Justin Trudeau and his minions to prance around the world attending various “important’ functions (we know they have heard of Zoom, because Parliament is still using it), why can’t my daughter attend her school in-person?
I’m very fortunate that I haven’t suffered financially during this pandemic, but there are many out there who have seen their jobs or businesses disappear. I’m also very fortunate not to have had any medical issues that have been exacerbated by delayed treatments. How many people have died, or have seen a decline in their quality of life, because of pandemic restrictions for medical treatments, or because they simply didn’t want to risk going to the doctor/hospital?
The physical and mental health of people is suffering way too much. The sooner we realize the “cure” is worse than the disease, the sooner we can indeed return to the way things were before the pandemic.
When did flatten the curve become flatten the economy?
