January 2021
Last Saturday, I ventured out of my house, despite the latest “Stay Home” order from the provincial government, on an essential trip to take some necessary supplies to my elderly parents, both of whom don’t venture too far from home, even on non-lockdown days. I wasn’t the only one.
I saw many cars on the road along my route and in the parking lots of malls and plazas that I passed.
Now, did all these people, myself included, not care about preventing the spread of the Communist Chinese Party Virus? Did we all not care about killing grandma? Absolutely not!
From the beginning of this pandemic, I have been following all the recommended health protocols, including limiting travelling. When I do travel, I either travel alone, or only with those in my household. I limit my contact with other people, and follow the aforementioned protocols when I have to interact with others.
I spent more time sitting on my back deck this past summer that I normally would. I often joke that this past year would have been a perfect time to have been sentenced to house arrest.
I’ve also discovered a second positive aspect to having PTSD: there are many times that I really don’t want to be around anyone, especially in large groups or at social gatherings where I don’t know anyone, something that never used to bother me.
I’ve never been afraid to venture out of the home; I just do it responsibly. Seeing as we haven’t seen a drastic increase in infections from the weekend, I’m guessing that most others who also ventured out, and continue to do so, they were also being responsible too. Not all of us are attending large super-spreader social gatherings.
If the precautions that I and others like me have been taking since the beginning of this pandemic aren’t good enough, then why should we continue to do them? That list also includes mandatory lockdowns.
At least this pandemic has served to remind all of us that we should wash our hands regularly.
On a related topic, why are planeloads of international passengers still arriving at Canada’s airports, despite the fact that Canada’s borders are supposedly closed?
