Now I know that Patrick’s government is a minority one and in theory can fall at any time, but the Liberal-dominated Senate recently passed a bill fixing federal election dates every four years. Although the government can still fall, under the terms of the bill Stephen Harper can’t be the one to pull the plug.
Patrick has taken a lot of heat recently over his spending on information flyers & newspaper ads and is constantly accused of being a self-promoting professional politician, but he certainly is living up to his motto of “working hard to represent you in Ottawa”. Who cares if he is a “professional politician” as long as he is a good one? Some of the information that I receive from Patrick I already know about since I read the newspaper on a regular basis, but I’m sure a lot of Barrie residents don’t do the same.
If I sound like a big Patrick Brown booster, well I am. In the interest of disclosure, I am a Conservative Party member and was a volunteer on his 2004 and 2006 campaigns, but these gestures just confirm that I picked the right person to support. Patrick may not be perfect, but one cannot deny his enthusiasm and dedication. At least he is trying to do the best job he can and trying to stay in touch with his constituents, unlike a lot of politicians. I think Patrick would be enthusiastic no matter what party he represents and I think that the citizens of Barrie, Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Green Party or otherwise, should be happy that we have such an enthusiastic “professional politician”. I’d rather have Patrick as my MP than someone like Belinda Stronach, who was more concerned with her own ambitions and packed up and took her ball home when she didn’t get her way.
